So let’s sharpen those pencils, fire up the laptops, and get cracking!
This month I’ll be working on both revising Surge of the Soul Eater and writing episodes for the Nusquamton Archives. I’m going to pants the heck out of the short story series while trying to make progress with the novel.
Knowing me with how my brain is right now, I’m not going to be able to settle on just one thing. Current word count goal for the month is 1000 every day. Hopefully I can hit this modest goal – not going to push myself as hard as NaNoWriMo (well that’s the plan anyway but we’ll see).
Any who… I wish you all luck and hope you enjoy the month!
I’ve discovered Scapple and… holy cow I love this program! It let’s you build mind maps with it and you can drag and drop them right into Scrivener (if you have it). Continue reading “Discovering Scapple”
I thought I would take a moment to explain what this project is to those visiting for the first time. Continue reading “Explaining the Nusquamton Project”
Yesterday I realized that Camp NaNo begins next month. Originally I was planning to launch into the book that follows Surge of the Soul Eater, but now I don’t feel ready to do so. The ideas for it are still brewing and the first book is still a mess. That’s fine, it’s part of the process of world building and I have a lot of it to do still. Continue reading “Camp NaNo Next Month”
My brother is still reading my vomit draft. He has shared with me only one thought so far after he got 30 pages in and that was, unsurprisingly, that I could add more detail and expand the scenes more. In particular he felt that the first scene where the soul eater brood is introduced was somewhat confusing in places. Continue reading “Revision Notes – Concept of Layering”
I posted my initial idea on my life blog, The Art of Chaos, and I’ll be damned if I can’t find the post now. But that’s fine I haven’t forgotten the idea: a Lilim named Octavia bound to serve Thomas’ family, and attempting to pursue a relationship with Rue, finds out she is really a simulacrum. I want to write a book exploring that idea. Continue reading “Ideas for the Next Book Germinating”
I sat down today and in Scrivener I created a page for each scene. I then put each scene into the acts they are currently in for the vomit draft. Finally I labeled each scene for the plot line they are a part of. One of the things that resulted is I ended up breaking up some of the scenes that covered multiple plot lines into separate scenes. Except for one in the beginning of the book. Continue reading “Scenes Semi Outlined Today”
Okay so I’ve been making some very slow progress with the revision of my novel here. I’ve discussed somewhat on my personal blog in this post. Continue reading “Self Assessment of the Revision Process”
I’m thinking that I should invest more in the dynamic between Thomas and his mother, especially in the beginning of the book, during the revision process. As a mother I already know how I react when I’ve lost my child for a second – or five. Continue reading “Revision Notes Regarding Celeste in Surge of the Soul Eater”
It’s strange. I did outline this. I did plan for unveiling some historical context for Thomas with the intent to ramp things up toward the climax. Trouble was I didn’t plan for who or how much exactly so in came the lawyer friend that got mentioned in the beginning of the book but never showed up. Continue reading “Reflecting on the Process”
